What is Adblue and how can it help?
The reactant Adblue is now required to be part of all new diesel car engine systems as it reduces NOx-emissions (Nitrous Oxide).
Brought in as part of the Euro 6 Emissions Standard objectives: to reduce levels of harmful car and van exhaust emissions, both in petrol and diesel cars. This includes nitrogen oxide (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (THC and NMHC) and particulate matter (PM), which is composed of soot from diesel cars. Adblue works with the catalytic converter to reduce these harmful emissions. The catalytic converter is equally as important as Adblue, as through reduction and oxidation it turns these harmful gases (carbon monoxide) into less hazardous ones (carbon dioxide). The current situation
Very few forecourts have Adblue available at the pump, so consumers with Euro 6 compliant engines must purchase it in plastic bottles. The oil companies are advising that the bottles, and any residue, should be disposed of carefully. Most cars require an Adblue top-up between normal services, so it is wise to keep an eye out for low-level warnings, as the car will not start if it runs out!
Although Adblue is not hazardous or dangerous in the normal sense of the word, it has to be dispensed carefully and spills are to be avoided.
