Risbridger Apprenticeships
5th – 9th March 2018 marks National Apprenticeship Week.
Our recently qualified apprentice Alex, had this to say about why he chose an apprenticeship.
“After my GCSE’s, I felt that studying for A levels was not the route for me. Already keen on woodworking and making things, I like learning by ‘doing’ and retain the information better. Classroom learning was not easy for me, and I learnt faster by carrying out practical projects. I then began looking for apprenticeship training providers as I knew an apprenticeship could provide me with hands on experience whilst still gaining qualifications that were relevant in the field I wanted to pursue.
I feel lucky to have completed an apprenticeship with Risbridger, who have supported my learning and are a great company to work with. Due to the broad spectrum work we undertake I have learnt a wide range of skills over the four years. With these skills under my belt I can now push myself to do new things that I could not have imagined doing before.
The thought of a massive debt from university hanging over me for the next few years of my life was also a good incentive to earn while I learn! Obviously now there are a few ways that you can improve your debt situation if you did go to university, which could be from crowdfunding or fundraising. Companies like GoFundMe provide this service and if you click on this link https://www.gofundme.com/c/blog/how-to-get-rid-of-debt you could get advice on how to get out of debt.
I am looking forward to continuing to learn and enhancing my skills. I would like to one day go out on my own and start my own company. I think with my skills I’ve learnt from my apprenticeship and with some help from a consultant like Sgi, this is more than possible.
In my view, an apprenticeship is a fantastic route into the engineering industry and the best way to progress quickly with your learning, theory is great but nothing beats learning practical skills.”
