Conductive Pump Hoses: Helping To Avoid The Threat Of Static Electricity

Static electricity is a constant threat to safe fuelling or fluid replenishment in aircraft systems, and here’s why.

Quite simply, without proper care being taken, there is a danger from potential ignition sources. The types of hose used and their role in hazardous area operations, from the direct interaction of moving liquids exposes the equipment to a high risk of becoming electro-statically charged.

How Can Risbridger help?

All of our Ground Service Equipment used in Engine Oil and Fluid Replenishment procedures are supplied with fluid compatible conductive hoses. The hose material is embedded with fine wire mesh, which is bonded to the metal flanges.

Avoiding wear & tear

Best practice is absolutely crucial – no hose is immune to operational wear and tear and therefore a regular visual test is recommended to look for continuity breaks.

Conducting electrical tests to check for damage is also essential and any hoses found to be faulty should be removed immediately.

Risbridger has a stock of spare conductive hoses available for all of our pumps. Keeping a spare in stock is wise, in case of any unforeseen eventuality.

Above all, DO NOT attempt to fix any damage found with tape – the results could be catastrophic.

Bear in mind that a new hose costs as little as GBP £30.00 each – that’s the cost of 2 large beers in Scandinavia. Worth the investment I’d say!
